After a performer in the adult industry tested positive for HIV, the adult video industry trade group called for a shutdown on production.

Porn stars voluntarily use a STD testing protocol facility twice every month and according to the Los Angeles-based Free Speech Coalition, one of the adult performers may have positive results for HIV. The FSC moratorium has created a name in the market for having adult studios.

The key objective is to ensure that transmission of the virus and any other STDs does not occur while on set. It has managed to put this under control with more than 10years of clean production. Thanks to the introduction of a testing system that puts the producers in the know-how on their performer’s status in reference to STDs and HIV.

According to the CEO of the coalition, Diane Duke, the health of their performers is a very important aspect. In this, the decision to shut down is more of a preventive measure. Statistics need to be clear on the number of performers infected before resuming back to the business as usual.

In Sacramento, the introduction of a bill requiring adult performers to use condoms while on set was rejected. Even at this, the AIDS Healthcare Foundation argues that are a necessary detail as it seeks to protect employees as required by the federal law. Condoms protect employees from the possible transmission of pathogens that can be transmitted via blood at the workplace.

The industry is, however, not for the use of condoms. This is because it kills business. End users will not buy videos where porn starts are suing condoms as much as they do when the performers do not use them. According to porn titans, this would lead to black market production where it would be even more unsafe.

As a result, the FSC announced that all adult video productions should shut down for the time being.
Duke wrote a statement clearly indicating that though there was a positive HIV test at their center, they are still awaiting confirmatory tests. In addition, they must check if anyone else might have been infected.
Michael Weinstein, the president of AIDS Healthcare Foundation campaigned for the use of condoms. He goes ahead to mention some adult performers who were infected while on set. It is therefore, important that the safety and protection of adult video performers be a priority.

The risk of more performers being exposed due to the industry’s negligence must be controlled. Though the industry has been going against the Bloodborne Pathogens regulations, the foundation has taken to heart is still keen on pushing for the enforcement of the regulation with more enthusiasm.
